Don’t Be Clueless, Build the Ultimate Digital Fashion Closet

The moment Cher in the movie Clueless built an outfit using her digital fashion closet I eagerly anticipated the day I would have my very own. As the years passed, I grew increasingly shocked and disappointed that no futuristic digital wardrobe systems were invented or became mainstream. It seemed AS IF this was a very viable product, surely someone should have invented it by now.

I guess I would have to take matters into my own hands. Luckily creating is what I love to do, so I created my version of Cher’s Digital Fashion Closet as a Digital Fashion Planner.

What is the Fashion Planner

The digital fashion planner is a creative outlet to discover and define your unique style. My goal was to create a digital fashion closet where I could catalog every piece in my wardrobe. Using the planner I was able to easily style new looks, save items I had been eyeing and create mood boards for new emerging trends. The planner quickly turned into my go-to resource for creativity, and I saw the potential to share it with others in search of something similar.

For a limited time I’m offering the Fashion Planner for free. All you have to do is sign up for my newsletter, which are monthly recaps from my blog, including my styled looks, packing guides & my fashion budgeting secrets. Feel free to opt out at any time if they no longer interest you!

Once you have your planner in hand, keep scrolling to uncover all of its exciting features included!

What’s Inside the Fashion Planner

THE CLOSET

The Closet is the dedicated section within the planner where you can meticulously catalog every piece of clothing in your wardrobe. There are spaces to add the Image, Name, Brand, and Size of each item for easy future reference. The inclusion of size details is particularly useful for pants, as sizing often varies between brands. This feature enables you to have your size on hand for different brands, so you never order the wrong size again.

Seeing everything I own in once convenient place allowed me to easily pull together looks, shop for items missing in my wardrobe & pack for vacations. Additionally, I created tabs for each category of the closet with hyperlinks to quickly jump from section to section. When you need to add another page, simply copy & paste.

The Benefits of a Digital Fashion Closet

E-commerce has revolutionized our shopping habits. Now, it’s simpler to explore various brands and styles all at once, guiding us towards smarter, more deliberate purchases. However, this also means we face a lot more options! Previously, when you needed new jeans, you’d visit your favorite denim store (I’ll never forget you, Fox Lady!!) and try on several pairs before making your choice. Now, you can spend hours, even days, contemplating the best pair of jeans to buy.

This was a big reason why I created Currently Popular in the first place. My hope was to reduce The Paradox of Choice dilemma, that I was continually facing while shopping. If you browse the drop down menu of the Digital Closet tab on my website you will find my top picks for every wardrobe category, making it easier for you to cut out the noise and find a quality product.

Additionally, you can download all of the images from the Digital Closet section on my site and use them in your own Digital Fashion Closet.

THE LOOKS

Style different outfits for every season or occasion and become your own stylist.

This section of the planner has been so fun to play around with. I love having my planner accessible at all times, as it allows me to effortlessly put together a look from anywhere. Inspiration can strike at any moment, and it’s exciting to have the ability to instantly capture and develop those ideas into outfits.

Use the items from your digital fashion closet to create looks around different trends or upcoming events in your life. You can find my Styled Looks here with links to shop. I have them sectioned by season, making it simple to navigate and find inspiration for any time of the year, whether you’re dressing for a sun-kissed summer day or a cozy winter evening. I also post styled looks daily on my Instagram, if you’re are looking for a dose of inspiration while scrolling.

THE MOODBOARDS

Discover your style aesthetic and keep a digital scrapbook for future looks.

The mood board pages are your canvas to express your style through imagery. As I’m scrolling through Pinterest I will save any images that catch my eye. Later I will group similar imagery into moodboards and title them by Trends. This can also be a great place to mix trends and create a completely new one. Have fun here and get creative! Feel free to check out my personal Pinterest Boards for inspiration.

Your moodboard tool kit has a bunch of fun accessories to enhance your pages, like pins, tape, polaroids and more.

THE WISH LIST

Save all of the items you’ve been eyeing here, with tabs for each category of your wardrobe.

Creating a wish list helps you steer clear of impulsive fashion purchases driven by exceptional digital marketing campaigns. The wish list section of your planner will help you slow down and only hit purchase in your time. If something sells out, then it simply wasn’t meant to be. The funny thing about fashion is it’s constantly repeating itself. If it truly is gone for good, as they want you to believe, then it probably wasn’t that good to begin with. Besides, many brands offer the same styles and you can find a similar option elsewhere.

My favorite thing about the wish list section is having everything I want in one place. I’m able to access all of my links, see prices and get a general gist of what my closet will evolve into with these purchases. With this snapshot I might notice that I’m saving a lot of trendy pieces that I might not actually wear. Usually, I quickly tire of items just by seeing them in my wish list, realizing I won’t love them long-term.

THE BUDGET

The key to having your cake and eating it too.

The common dilemma I often encounter while shopping involves knowing what I want but doubting its affordability. Regrettably, I have made the mistake of being deterred by the price tag of a high-quality item, one that I would wear for many seasons, and instead opting for a cheaper alternative, both in quality and price.

This has led me to a closet full of things I don’t even like. We’ve heard it a million times before, buy quality over quantity. And yet we still find ourselves caught up in the world of fast fashion. Even though we know the solution we still make the mistake. Having a fashion budget will help break this habit.

Using the The Budget section of my planner, I can set a dollar amount for each category of my wardrobe. I build mine using my Capsule Wardrobe method, which segments by Basics, Investments & Trends. You can read all about this method here!

By using the budgeting section of the planner I can now make conscious shopping purchases. Now, I know if I have the money to buy a $600 pair of shoes or if my wardrobe even needs them. I can also pull different items already in my wardrobe and see how I would style them. I might discover, nothing I own works with this item. Or maybe I’ll realize I need a few more items to round out the look and can buy them at the same time.

The holes in your wardrobe will quickly become obvious once you start using the Fashion Planner. You’ll know what you need to add and what you’ll never wear. Saving you lots of money and time.

Why is this process works

The beauty behind this process is its ability to allow you to express your creativity and hone in on your personal style. Building your Digital fashion closet should be fun. It transforms the way you approach your wardrobe, turning everyday dressing into an exciting journey of self-expression and style exploration. Embrace this tool to redefine your fashion narrative. Happy styling!
