This article is about cozy winter outfits.
Remember the winter uniform of leggings, a giant hoodie and a puffer that made you look like a sleeping bag with legs? We all wore it. We all felt a little defeated in it. This might be the first winter where being comfortable and being on trend are the same thing. Faux fur coats and matching knit sets are everywhere right now, and they look best with the soft pieces you’d normally save for the couch.
That’s good news for me, because I live in knit sets and big sweaters from December to March. For years I’d change into jeans before running out the door, and it always felt like the cozy part of my day was over.
Now a cozy winter outfit is soft from top to bottom, and you can wear it pretty much anywhere. Sweats and leggings are fine out of the house, as long as the coat over them is the most dressed up thing you’re wearing. These are the cozy looks I’d copy this winter.
11 Cozy Winter Outfits for Women
Below are 11 cozy winter outfits for the stretch of winter when the cold stops being a novelty. Every one of them is warm enough for the walk and soft enough that you won’t want to change when you get home.
1. for Lazy Days at Home

A matching knit set is the closest thing to wearing pajamas all day that still lets you answer the door. This one pairs a collared button cardigan with wide ribbed pants in the same taupe, so it looks like one decision instead of two comfy pieces you grabbed on the way out of the bedroom.

2. for Running Errands

Leggings and a big sweater are the errand outfit for a reason, and the fix for the sloppy version is proportion. An oversized sweater that covers your hips makes leggings work outside the house. A chunky fringe scarf is the easiest way into this winter’s fringe trend, which Chloé pushed hard with a fringed plaid cape on its fall 26 runway.

3. for Shopping in the City

This is the outfit that proves sweatpants can go out in public. Gray sweats and a hoodie would be a lazy Sunday on their own, but a striped button down shirt underneath and a long faux fur coat on top change the whole message.

4. with Moon Boots and Leggings

Moon Boots look odd with jeans and make complete sense with leggings, because the slim leg lets the boot be the big shape. Belt a chocolate brown faux fur jacket at the waist so all that volume doesn’t swallow you, then tell me that’s not chic AF.

5. a Winter White & Cool Blue Combo

Winter whites feel cozy, not precious, once you add one soft color like cool blue. A cashmere scarf and beanie in that blue keep the cream from going flat, and a big brown fuzzy bag brings in texture and a little fun. Wide leg pants keep it as comfortable as it looks.

6. with Joggers and a Fur Coat

Joggers are streetwear and you can’t convince me otherwise. Pair them with a short faux fur jacket, trendy sneakers and a baseball cap to keep the fur from looking too fancy.

7. for Walking the Dog in the Cold

An early dog walk in January deserves better than whatever was on the floor. Matching cream knits feel like loungewear because they are, and a long dark faux fur coat thrown over them makes a set you could nap in look expensive. A hooded cable scarf saves you from hunting for a hat.

8. for an Après Ski Weekend

Après ski dressing is about looking good near the snow rather than on it, so you can skip the technical gear. A funnel neck faux fur jacket keeps you warm and chic. Pair it with your favorite cashmere knit pants and fluffy white earmuffs, and let shearling lined mules handle the walk from the car.

9. for Work in the Winter

Work in January calls for something soft that still looks like you meant it. A fine gauge knit jumper with dark jeans and a structured leather tote does the job, and a faux fur coat over the top is the piece everyone in the elevator will ask about.

10. for Going Out in the Winter

Going out in winter usually means freezing between the car and the door. A fitted crewneck with barrel jeans and heeled pumps gives you the dressed up part, and the faux fur jacket over it is warmer than any blazer you’d shiver in.

11. with Uggs and a Chunky Knit

Some days the goal is just softness. An alpaca cable knit with relaxed 90s jeans and Ultra Minis is about as low effort as cozy winter outfits get, and slouchy cashmere socks folded over the boot are what makes it look deliberate.

How to Dress Cute and Cozy This Winter
If there’s one thing to take into this winter, it’s that you don’t have to pick between warm and cute anymore. Start with the softest thing you want to wear that day, whether that’s a knit set or one of your favorite cashmere sweaters, and build the rest of your cozy winter outfit around it. On the days you want a little more than soft, cute winter outfits work the same way with sharper pieces. Stay warm out there.
At Currently Popular, we believe a faux fur coat thrown over sweatpants counts as getting dressed, and the doorman doesn’t need to know.
